Adjumani MP donates text books

THE MP for East Moyo in Adjumani district has donated 35 cartons of textbooks to primary schools in the area, writes Dradenya Amazia.

Santos Piro Erwaga said the donation was to improve academic standards in the district that had declined since 1990.

"It is important to have a very concrete foundation in everything; that is why I have begun with the lower primary level. In the long run it will continue to upper and secondary levels," he said.

He said the books that included teachers' guides would be distributed to all the primary schools in the district.

Erwaga said all the five MPs of East and West Moyo counties, comprising Adjumani and Moyo districts, had pledged to contribute to a scholarship scheme for poor but bright children. "We realised that most bright children especially girls marry too early due to lack of fees," he said at his victory party recently, where he handed over the English Language and Social Studies books.

Erwaga beat former First Deputy Premier Lt. Gen. Moses Ali for the seat.
